We decided not to drive through motorways. Kilometers go much slower, but we have a possibility to see charming towns, wide fields, and dark forests. And thousands of roundabouts! We are fed up with them already. I noticed French love roundabouts during my first visit in north France. Now I have confirmation.
We reached Bergerac, where Michael, my godfather, lives. He is in France for many years and flies to Poland very rarely, so we paid him a visit.
Together with Philippe, they have a wonderful house. Not too big, but very nice furnished. It is so cozy inside, that you want to live there. They also have a dog – Alfred. He has loads of energy and is very friendly. He and Kaprys went along.
After a short chit-chat, we went to visit the town. We are very fond of Bergerac. It is quite old, situated by Dordogne river, with many narrow, enchanting, streets. After a walk, we sat in a restaurant to enjoy the beer.
Back at home, we took a shower, what is a great pleasure for us. We drank whiskey or wine depends on preferences and talked. We planned to move on in the evening, but Michelle convinced us to stay for the night.
When Philippe came back from work, we ate altogether delicious dinner. Potatoes in a French way with grill meat. Apple tart was for a desert. The only “problem” was, that Philippe doesn’t speak English, nor we French. However, with small translation, we could communicate. 😉
Michelle was going to work next day at 6 a.m., thus we didn’t stay long in the night. We got up in the morning, and after quick breakfast hit the road again.
We see each other rare, therefore it was even more nice to meet. Not to mention warm shower, delicious dinner and comfortable bed. Thank you so much for Your hospitality!
We continued passing small towns with speed limit 50 km/h and roundabouts every few hundred meters. We made a long break for a dinner as well. That’s why we didn’t go far. Then we saw the sign “déviation” what means “detour” and we found ourselves among villages and fields in the dusk. The moon gave strong light and the impression was amazing, especially when we entered the forest. Narrow road, curved trees with branches bend in our direction. Only the werewolves were missing…
We were very close to volcano Le Puy-de-Dôme, which we planned to see the following day, so we started to look for the parking. There was none by the road in woods. We had to go back a bit to the main road. Still, we couldn’t find the parking, but we noticed the sign “camping” and we turned right. Just in the morning we also noticed “5km further” but if it was not there, we wouldn’t find a perfect spot to overnight. In the evening we were sure it is abandoned after season camping, as there was wide glade surrounded by forest. Dark woods, volcanos nearby and leaves rustle unnecessarily woke the imagination up. The mind did its best to rationalize the situation. Just in case we used horn few times to scare away forest guests.
After the dinner, we unfold the bed, lit the candle and watch a movie while drinking wine. We felt even more like at home. We watched Polish “Traffic police”. Recommended!
