You can do your daily shopping in a supermarket or in the local market. Or both, of course. There is always a choice. Let’s start with supermarkets.
Supermarkets
You will probably visit the nearest most often, or the one which is on your way to work/school. Sometimes it is good to change something, though. Maybe you’ll find the best chorizo in Mercadona or the best oat flakes in the small local supermarket.

I like to buy groceries in Spanish shops, especially in Mercadona.
Lidl is closest to my home. To the list I’ve created, I add Aldi, which is known for low prices. The prices are in euros per kilo/
Consum | Mercadona | Masymas | Lidl | Aldi
chleb | 1,79/3,03 | 1,15/1,64 | 1,65/4,13 | 1,85/2,47 | 1,69/2,25
mleko | 1,1 | 0,9 | 0,83 | 0,79 | 0,79
masło | 6,2 | 6 | 9,52 | 5,96 | 5,96
jaja | 1,09 | 1,3 | 1,29 | 1,29 | 1,29
kawa | 4,2 | 4,05 | 4,2 | 3,96 | 4,57
płatki owsiane | 1,78 | 1,62 | 2,25 | 1,78 | 1,58
banany | 1,29 | 1,29 | 2,39 | 2,29 | 1,29
pomidory | 1,39 | 1,39 | 1,45 | 1,30 | 1,59
6,1 | 5,39 | 6,98 | 6,08 | 5,39 | ||
cava | 2,6 | 2,14 | 2,6 | 2,6 | 2,6 |
I must admit I was curious how the list will look like. Normally, I do not pay such big attention to the prices. I choose fairly cheap and fairly good products within this particular shop, without comparing to the others. Now I have some ideas about the prices in different supermarkets. And… it doesn’t say much, only that my choice of Mercadona is fairly good and that Masymas is the most expensive.
Markets

You can also do shopping at the market.
At the market, you may not get everything you need (milk, butter, meat) but you’ll find fine fruit, vegetables, spices, honey and a lot more. Moreover, there are clothes and shoe stands, toys, kitchen stuff, rugs, and others. The trip may be ended in one of the food trucks with beer, coffee, hot dog or sweet churros.

The markets have their charm.
It’s not only shopping but entertainment as well. Usually, they are once a week, but every day you can find one somewhere so you can shop all week long.

Check out where is the nearest one.
Below you can find a list of markets in Alicante province. I don’t know exact addresses or such, but I’m convinced it’s easy to locate them. There are always a lot of people around and traffic jams on the streets. I’ve been to El Zoco near Ciudad Quesada and the very big one in Torrevieja (the address: Av. Delfina Viudes, 1, 03183 Torrevieja). If you have some updates, please comment below.

Polish shop
I am from Poland and I am used to some products I cannot find abroad. Those are groats, flakes (other than oat flakes), white cheese or some spices. South from Torrevieja, there’s Polish shop Mini Market ZAM. It’s quite small but sufficient. Maybe you’ll find something interesting there.

Enjoy shopping!
