Series are dangerous. They have this amazing ability to suck you in. That is why I try to avoid them, but I manage to do it over a short time only. Then, I promise myself I will be strong and I will watch just one episode per day. After all, one episode is shorter than a whole movie for which I do not always have time. And then… I find myself sitting on the couch until midnight watching one after another.
Going to bed late would be quite okay if you could sleep until noon the next day. But this is not possible with a little two-legged alarm clock in the house. Well…You do not always learn from your mistakes.
If you are rather a movie person, I recommend my former post about Spanish films. Today, however, I focus on the Spanish series. Some of them are probably well known to you. But maybe I will surprise you with two or three titles. Let’s see.
1. La casa de papel (2017-2020)
There are probably not many to whom this title is a stranger. It is currently winning hearts all over the world. It has won mine already. It tells the story of the assault on the Spanish national mint. The brain of the operation is called Professor. The situation develops dramatically in the following series. The fourth season has recently been released and now we are waiting for the fifth!
2.
Elite (2018-2020)This is another series with high popularity nowadays. The action takes place in an elite school, which is joined by three students from the lower social class. A terrible tragedy occurs. 3 seasons.
3. Narcos (2015-2017)
This series is probably also quite famous because it tells the true story of Pablo Escobar, the drug cartel boss in Colombia. There were 3 seasons released.
4. Las chicas del cable (2017-2020)
The story begins with 4 women working in the telephone company in Madrid in the 1920s. Recently the fifth season was published.
5. Velvet (2013-2016)
A love story between the seamstress and a man who inherited the prestigious fashion house called Velvet. 4 seasons.
6. Gran hotel (2011-2013)
It is not hard to guess that the action of this series takes place in the hotel. A young gentleman intends to discover the truth about his sister’s disappearance. To do this, he joins the crew of waiters at the Gran Hotel. 3 seasons.
7. Merlí (2015-2018)
Merlí is the teacher of philosophy. With his lectures, he helps the students to solve the problems in their private lives. 3 seasons.
8. El barco (2011-2013)
Last on my list here, but to tell you the truth this was the first Spanish series I have watched. Maybe the reason for this was that Mario Casas plays the main role here. (If you haven’t heard about him, check my post about Spanish movies. You will find some titles with Mario Casas there.) “El barco” means “a ship”, so you get 3 seasons on the high seas. Global disasters, love, crime and Spanish absurdity included.
Spanish series are often extremely intricate and move a lot of threads. This is why it is impossible to write detailed descriptions and I limited myself to just a few sentences about each. You will have to check the series for yourself. Tell me what are your thoughts about Spanish productions.
